Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
SciTrue helps you check scientific claims against the published literature. This policy explains what the SciTrue website (scitrue.ai), the SciTrue browser extension (Chrome, Edge, and Firefox), and the SciTrue connector for AI assistants (our MCP server and API) collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible and never sell your data.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and a securely hashed password. You can use parts of SciTrue without an account, in which case we use only an anonymous device identifier to track free-tier usage.
- Claims and text you submit. The claims, citations, or passages you ask us to verify — whether from the website, the extension, or a connected AI assistant — and a history of your past checks are stored so we can show your results and apply your usage quota.
- Payment information. Purchases are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe handles it. We keep a record of the purchase (package, amount, date) to grant your credits.
- Browser extension. The extension reads the content of a page only when you actively request a claim verification. It does not track your browsing history, monitor pages in the background, or collect personal data.
- Connector for AI assistants (MCP). When you connect SciTrue to an AI assistant, we store the authorization that links the connector to your SciTrue account, and we receive only the specific claim or text the assistant submits to a SciTrue tool. We do not receive your wider chat history or anything you do not send to a SciTrue tool.
How we use your information
We use the information above to provide the service: to run the verification you request, show your history, manage your account and credits, process payments, and send essential emails (such as email verification and password resets). We may use aggregated, de-identified usage data to improve SciTrue.
How your claims are processed
The reasoning behind each verdict runs on our own self-hosted AI models, so your claims are not sent to third-party AI providers by us. To find relevant papers, the text of your claim or query is sent to third-party academic literature search services.
We do not use your claims, submitted text, citations, or verification history to train or fine-tune our AI models. Your submissions are used only to run the verification you request and to show your own history.
Using SciTrue through an AI assistant
If you reach SciTrue through a connector inside another company’s AI assistant (for example Anthropic’s Claude or OpenAI’s ChatGPT), that assistant is a separate service run by that company and is governed by its own privacy policy. SciTrue only receives the claim or text the assistant sends to a SciTrue tool, and returns a verdict and its supporting citations. We sign you in with a standard authorization flow (OAuth); the connector cannot read your account password, and you can revoke its access at any time from your SciTrue account or the assistant. For setup details, see the connector documentation.
Third-party services
- Stripe: payment processing (Stripe Privacy Policy).
- Academic literature search providers: to find papers relevant to your claim.
- AI assistant providers (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI): only when you choose to use SciTrue through their connector. Your use of their assistant is governed by their privacy policy.
Data retention
We keep your account data and verification history for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your personal data. To make a request, or for any privacy question, contact us at scitrue.ai@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
